Researchers in Belgium have identified a new ligament in human knees via cadaver dissections and study. The new ligament is named the anterolateral ligament. Its existence has only been postulated in the past (in the 1800’s). This may have significant contributions to future treatment of knee instability, particularly for ACL tears and those who continue to demonstrate instability or “giving-way” after surgery. Will be very interesting to follow the future research and findings. Just goes to show how much we really don’t know about the amazing machine that is our body, and how much more there is to learn!
