As physical therapists, we are the experts in movement dysfunction and musculoskeletal impairments. Many times pain or dysfunction in one area is actually at least in part due to a problem or dysfunction in another nearby area of the body. This is a great video by a DPT in San Francisco, where he discusses the importance of ankle movement in the ability to bend and squat. The exercises/treatments shown may not be appropriate for everyone (i.e. if you are older or have arthritis, a large amount of hip or knee stiffness, etc.), but the concepts are the same and exercises can be modified. Check this out if you have five minutes.
